We’re excited to share that we’ve begun rolling out a new map filter on Discover that will show you a selection of popular and recently faved businesses around you.
What is changing?
When neighbors tap into Discover from the main navigation they land on the “Latest” view of the Nextdoor Map. This view shows a selection of the most recent pins that represent different types of location-based content that neighbors have created on Nextdoor—events, geo-tagged posts, For Sale & Free listings, Help pins and now businesses. From the “Latest” view, they can now tap the new “Businesses” filter on the map to see a dedicated map view of a selection of businesses around them.
To be eligible to show as a pin on the Business Map, businesses must have at least one Fave and have a public address shared on their business page. To prevent overcrowding of the Business Map, not all businesses that meet this criteria will be shown on the map. Businesses are chosen to be on the map based on their proximity to the neighbor’s home, the total number of Faves they have, and how recently they’ve been Faved.

When neighbors tap on a pin on the Business Map, a card will appear on the bottom of the map with a summary of details about the business, such as the business name, the number of Faves the business has received, and hours of operation, along with photos from the business page. Neighbors can Fave a business directory from the card or tap on the card to see the detailed view of the business page for that business. In the mobile app version of the map, they can also swipe through the cards to see the different listings on the map.

Each view of the map in Discover has its own accompanying sheet. The sheet includes information and content that can’t be found on the map. The Business Map sheet includes a selection of businesses that do not have public addresses.

Why has Nextdoor made this update?
The Business Map gives neighbors a more visual proximity-based way to see the local businesses in their area. It also gives business owners an additional way to reach new and existing customers. For neighbors who don’t own a car, this can be an especially helpful way to find businesses just a walk or bike ride away.
